Spot Margin

The following margin apply to spot forex, forex outright forwards, spot gold and spot silver:

• The  first $25000 in the account requires 1% margin during the week and 2% over the weekend. FX Crosses require 0.5% margin for the first $25 000 from 27 April 09

• Normal rates at 2% margin during the week and 4% over the weekend applies to capital amounts above the first $25000 

• Weekend margin rates apply from 16:00 on Friday to 17:00 on Sunday GMT and on non-banking days

Note: In cases where market conditions and liquidity changes radically Saxobank might adjust the margin levels accordingly

Options Margin

Based on 2 types of calculations with one exception:-

Delta Margin which is related to the exposure to changes in the spot market

Vega Margin which is related to changes in the volatility of the underlying spot Forex cross
This allows you to hedge spot positions with options with lowered margin requirements. This service, previously only offered to Professional Traders, is now available to retail traders

Exercise procedure
Options that are 'in the money' are automatically exercised at 10.00 A.M. New York time (New York cut) on the day of expiry where they are converted to a spot position. This spot position is subject to the usual profit/loss if the spot price moves from the exercise price. If you already have an offsetting position at exercise, the exercised position will be netted out on the following day

Margin Call Procedure:

Warnings on margin call levels occur automatically at 110%, 125% and 150% of used/required equity (at 150% -all open positions are automatically liquidated)
